Sandwiches on Serious Eats According to our handy site-metering utility, the top 10 most delicious sandwiches on Serious Eats last year were ... 1. Cold Fried Chicken at Ink.Sack (Los Angeles) It was kind of a stroke of genius to bring cold fried chicken into the sandwich form. This was one of our favorites at Michael Voltaggio's newish Los Angeles sandwich shop ink sack. 2. Cheesesteak at John's Roast Pork (Philadelphia) Known for their roast pork, John's is also the James Beard Award-winning gold standard for the non-tourist cheesesteak. 3. Breakfast Sandwich at Cutty's (Cambridge, MA) Rendered pork fat makes this biscuit base for the sandwich rich, subtly savory, and meltingly tender. 4. Tipsy Texan at Franklin BBQ (Austin) Yes, Franklin BBQ is worth the 90-minute wait in the sun—though we suggest you get there early enough to snag a place in the shade. 5. Chorizo Torta at Xoco (Chicago) It shouldn't surprise anyone who's eaten at Rick Bayless's Xoco that this breakfast sandwich is worth waking up early for. 6. Daily Sandwich Specials at Pal's Takeaway (San Francisco) Pal's Takeaway is a simple, nondescript deli counter in the back of Tony's Market on the east side of the Mission District. With barely any signage, it's the last place you'd expect to find a helluva great sandwich. 7. Roast Beef Sandwich at Clyde Common (Portland) The chuck for this sandwich comes from Painted Hills Farm and is brined for two days before it's roasted. The tender and supple beef is crowned with a fresh slaw of cabbage, herbs, and pickled celery. 8. Old School Bologna Sandwich at B Spot (Cleveland) This stars a thick (three-quarters of an inch-thick) slab of bologna topped with yellow mustard, pickles, and white American cheese, all served on a toasted potato bun. 9. Grilled Cheese Donut and Others at Tom & Chee's (Cincinnati) It's a sticky, sweet, buttery, gooey concoction that is actually way better tasting than it sounds once you can get your head wrapped around the fact that you're eating a glazed donut grilled cheese. 10. Koagie at Myung Ga (Cherry Hill, NJ) Starting with a long, seeded roll (a Philadelphia-area sandwich staple), this Korean hybrid is stuffed with a sweet cabbage slaw, grilled scallions and onions, your choice of meat (go with the bulgogi), kimchi, and spicy cucumbers.
